Weather in Nicosia
Weather forecast for Nicosia is sunny almost all year round. As North Cyprus belongs to the region dominated by the Mediterranean climate, summers last here from May till mid October and are dry and hot. Nicosia enjoys over 300 days of sunshine which is abundant during the summer months. The sun shines almost 6 hours per day in winter and up to 12 hours per day in summer.
This is determined by the subtropical high pressure zone which controls the weather and restrains rainstorms from forming. So if you plan to visit the town in summer months the forecast for Nicosia will be predictable: plus 26-35°C, clear sky, and plenty of sun. The average sea water temperature is 21°C. It is worth saying that the temperature in Nicosia is a bit higher that in Kyrenia because it is situated in the central part of the island, the Mesaoria plain.
Winters in Nicosia, lasting from December to February, are short and mild with short-term rains. Nicosia has the least rainfall in the entire island, with only 300 and 400 mm annually.
Rains are accompanied by the temperature fall, though it never reaches critical figures. It is 10°C in winter and 5°C on the higher parts of the Kyrenia Mountains, to the north of Nicosia.
